Saugatuck Christmas Parade
Parades are a fun time to be with your family and friends. Christmas parades are especially exciting. If anyone visiting Saugatuck really loves Christmas, and wants to have a memory to last forever, they should go to the Saugatuck Christmas Parade. The best holiday event in Saugatuck is the Christmas Parade!
The Christmas parade is a kid- friendly event. Candy litters the street, and the kids can collect as many pieces as they want. They can even bring a bag to collect even more! There is also Santa Claus at the parade, even the Ghost of Christmas Past, Present, and Future. There are many clubs, organizations and groups that have kids in the parade. Some youngsters can even ride on the Saugatuck Fire Deparment’s fire truck! Kids who don’t ride on it love to see it drive past and hear the sirens. Children are always welcome at the Christmas parade!
The Christmas parade is extremely entertaining. Many people are in the parade. The parade has the usual Santa Claus, elves and floats, but Saugatuck has a couple unique groups they add to the mix. One of those groups is the Snow Shovel Brigade. This all- men group dresses in the most funky costumes you will ever see, and snow shovel down the street! The Peppermint Stick Brigade is another special group only Saugatuck has. Unlike the Snow Shovel Brigade, this crowd is full of ladies, and are a bit classier than the snow shovelers. The Saugatuck High School Band also marches in the parade. Who wouldn’t want to watch the exciting parade while listening to music?
The community is involved in the Christmas Parade. In addition to the Saugatuck High School Band, the cast of the heartwarming play, The Christmas Carol also walks in it. Many other citizens of Saugatuck and Douglas are in the parade also. After the parade, all shops are open, so people can shop downtown Saugatuck after watching such an exciting parade. People can also take rides in horse drawn carriages, which is usually located on Butler street. The community is always involved with the Christmas Parade!
There is only a little information visitors of Saugatuck need to know. The Christmas Parade is on December seventh, at 1PM, and is every year. No one has to pay to go to the Christmas parade! It goes along Butler street, starting by the White House Bistro, on Holland street, and proceeds down Butler street. The roads that the parade goes down are blocked off. Saugatuck Police cars lead the way, so everyone can know when its starting!
