Halloween Parade
People come from miles around to see the Halloween Parade in Douglas, Michigan. The Halloween Parade is a kid friendly event on October 30 starting at the hour of 4:00P.M. The childrens games and activities start at 1:00P.M, the activities are followed by The Halloween Parade. The Halloween Parade takes place on Butler street downtown Saugatuck. The Halloween Parade is one of my favorite events in Saugatuck to attend for many reasons.
Before the Halloween Parade had started we made our way over to the games for children. We took part in a witches brew pull-out, were you reach in the brew, grab something, and guess what you have. I pulled out an eyeball and my brother got an ear. I got a piece of candy for guessing correct. The we watched the pumpkin carving contest and pointed out who we thought would win. After that, we made our way over to see the costume contest that happens every year. There were three judges that judged the contestants on creativity, whether they bought or made the costume, and the costumes appeal. That night was the most fun I had ever had in Douglas. Over all, The Halloween Parade is an event I wish to attend with my family ever year.
Three years ago my parents and I lined the the streets of downtown Saugatuck awaiting the beginning of the Halloween Parade. The streets were lined with people dressed in different costumes. The afternoon was chilly and the wind was crisp as we awaited the parades beginning, then my brother catches sight of a tractor with a hay wagon trailing behind it. Soon after comes the line of different people dressed in very unique costumes. There were tons of families dressed up like movie characters, popular products, or halloween monsters. Early in the day there is a costume contest and the winners of each category get to participate in the Halloween Parade. There were several creative costumes. Some of the costumes were a woman and her baby dressed like a spider with a web. The lady was the spider web and her child in the baby carrier was the black spider. Another costume set in the parade was a guy dressed as a coke can and his friend was the coke creator. Finally there was a family of four dressed as Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow. My family went as The Incredibles. Also there were people carrying orange glowing lanterns with black silhouettes of pumpkins, cats, and witches. The whole street was lined with ghoules and other monsters as the parade marched on.
The Halloween Parade is a great place for kids and families to attend while visiting Saugatuck in October. Not only does The Halloween Parade have games for children but, also businesses around town stay open late and throw parties for young adults to attend. For the children candy is thrown out into the crowd and after they parade families gather around to tell child appropriate spookie stories. Families of all shapes and sizes will enjoy this festive time of year. Families that annually watch the parade have fun dressing in different themed costumes each year. The Halloween Parade starts at 4:00PM downtown douglas on Center Street.
The Halloween Parade is a fun and festive time in douglas so why not join the fun swing by the Douglas Halloween Parade. It will always be one of my favorite events held in Saugatuck.
