Respite Café
When I walked into the Respite Cafe, I was instantly greeted by a strong scent of coffee and desserts. Looking through the glass I saw many options of fresh fruit and
delicious looking sweet treats. There were lots of pictures around the cafe, many different coffees, iced/hot beverages, and different comfort foods and desserts. Respite is one of my favorite places in Saugatuck/Douglas for many reasons. Respite is very calm and relaxing. When you walk in, there is always someone to greet you and show you the different things they have on the menu. There is live music playing the whole year every Friday and Saturday. There is a wide selection of food and drinks to get all year round. The price range of the items they have are $1.50 - $9.50 Whenever I go to Respite they have new things to try. As an example, during the fall they gain different types of smoothies, like- Pumpkin Spice, Apple Cinnamon, and Orange. Some of the most popular items on the menu are their mocha glaciers. It taste like a mocha, but sweeter, with the texture of a smoothie. I love them so much! There “Ooeey Gooey Grilled Cheese" is simply amazing! Whenever I bite in to it, part of the cheese just stretches, while the other one just snaps ! Everything you taste is homemade. Respite is a great place for kids and families visiting Douglas. Located at 48 Center St., it's right in the center of Downtown Douglas, near Douglas Elementary. It is right across from Everyday People Cafe and Beery Field/ Park. It was opened in June, 1994, when there wasn’t a coffee shop in Douglas yet. Kids like to visit Respite Cafe after they visit the park or after a long day at summer camp or school. During the school year it’s open 7:30 - 6:00, seven days a week. During the summer, it is open seven days a week, hours vary depending on what the weather is like at the time. I love to walk there after school, grab a drink and finish my homework. Respite is overall a great place for families to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It has a great location, great food and drinks, very calm, and a homey feeling. Respite is one of my favorite places to eat with my family in Saugatuck/Douglas. |
