Saugatuck and Douglas have TONS of fun things to do, and sledding is a popular favorite. People love sledding because it is a fun thing to do in the cold of winter. Next winter you should come down and try out some of the hills yourself!
Although Saugatuck and Douglas don’t have any “designated” sledding hills, lots of families prefer Schultz Park (take Bluestar to Willey road take a left before you get to the highway), Old West Shore Golf Course (take Bluestar to center street and head west), the Backside of Mt. Baldhead (take center street west take right at first stop sign), and the Saugatuck Dunes State Park(take Bluestar highway to Burger King take a left at Burger King and a left on 138 Ave.).
Once my family and I went to the Backside of Mt. Baldhead and we timed my brother on his way down and it took him a whole 43 seconds to stop! The bach of Mount Baldhead is probably one of the best slopes because it is so long.
Although all of these hills are popular, each family likes them for a different reason, The West Shore Golf Course is nice and convenient, in town open and has few trees. MT. Baldhead is hard to get to, but is a very long ride, it can be kind of dangerous because of all the trees. The same goes for the Saugatuck Dunes state park. Schultz Park has a smaller hill, but it's open and has few trees and is good for kids.
People have been sledding and on these hills for about 60 years. My grandma likes to tell us stories of times when she used to sled down the same hills with her family when she was a kid. I’m sure that In another sixty years others will be telling their grandkids about the times when you went sledding on the hills that they sled on.
So as you can see Saugatuck in Douglas have a wide variety of hills for sledding. The hills are good for all different skill levels, abilities, and ages. The hills will be around for many years to come for everyone to enjoy.
